Biography
Described as “a singer who possesses the gift of heaven” by soprano Montserrat Caballé, Azerbaijani soprano Dinara Alieva joined the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow as soloist in 2010, and has since appeared at major opera houses and concert halls throughout the world. She has performed in major opera halls including Vienna State Opera, Berlin State Opera, Deutsche Oper Berlin, and Bavarian State Opera, among others; and under the batons of conductors such as Yuri Temirkanov, Vladimir Fedoseyev, Vladimir Spivakov, Yuri Bashmet, Constantine Orbelian, Giuseppe Sabbatini, Marcello Rota, Emmanuel Villaume, Pier Giorgio Bruno Morandi, Giuseppe Carello, Vasily Sinaisky and Tugan Sohiev.
In 2010, Ms. Alieva joined Russia’s Bolshoi Theatre as a soloist, making her debut as Liù in Puccini’s Turandot, and subsequently appeared in roles including Tatyana in Eugene Onegin, Violetta in La Traviata, Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni, Mimi in La Bohème, Leonora in Il Trovatore, Micaëla in Carmen, Marfa in The Tsar’s Bride, Nedda in Pagliacci, and many others.

Past seasons have included a triumphant debut with the Vienna State Opera as Donna Elvira (Don Giovanni), which led to return engagements at the house as Violetta (La traviata) and Tatyana (Eugene Onegin). Other notable engagements Magda in a new production of La Rondine at the Deutsche Oper, directed by Rolando Villazon; Mimi (La bohème) in Frankfurt and for the Dresden Semperoper; Violetta and Donna Elvira at the Deutsche Oper Berlin; Violetta in Frankfurt; Violetta, Mimi and Micaela (Carmen) at the Bolshoi Theatre and appearances at the Bayerische Staatsoper Munich and in Stuttgart.
Engagements in the 15-16 season and beyond include Magda (revival of Villazon’s La Rondine production) at the Deutsche Oper Berlin, Leonora (Il trovatore) for Israeli Opera, Marie (Mazeppa) for Opera de Oviedo, as well as her role debuts in major productions as Rusalka and as Desdemona (Otello).

A gifted recitalist, Ms. Alieva has performed in concert halls worldwide, including Carnegie Hall in New York City, Salle Gaveau in Paris, Smetana Hall in Prague and Cadogen Hall in London, as well as Greece’s Thessaloniki Concert Hall and Athens’ Megaron Concert Hall in memorial concerts dedicated to Maria Callas. In 2010, she gave a joint concert with Plácido Domingo in her hometown of Baku. She has also performed in a concert conducted by tenor José Cura.
A burgeoning recording artist, Dinara Alieva’s 2013 debut CD on the Naxos label, Russian Songs and Arias with the New Russian Symphony Orchestra received numerous accolades, including praise by the Newark Star Ledger’s Ronni Reich for her “powerful, secure soprano.” In January 2014, Ms. Alieva released her debut CD on the Delos label, Pace Mio Dio, sung with Czech National Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Marcello Rota. Robert Levine in Classics Today commented, “…Pace mio Dio is a gem–it’s rare to hear it so thrillingly performed…” Edward Greenfield in the Gramophone wrote, “…What is remarkable about all of Alieva’s singing is her depth of feeling, conveyed without exaggeration, from the heart…This really is an exceptional soprano recital which should bring the name of Dinara Alieva to new prominence.”
Her recording on the Delos label has also received accolades: “Dinara Alieva is the best new Verdi singer since Sondra Radvanovsky and here confirms what we have already heard in her solo album of Russian songs and arias for Naxos and her previous recital of operatic plums on Delos. She has a big, pure, vibrant sound with a touch of the smokiness.
