Dinara Alieva Sings Rusalka in Dvorak’s Opera at the Bolshoi During Golden Mask Festival

On September, 23, 25 and 27 Dinara performs at the Bolshoi Theater.  These shows will take place within the framework of the program of the nation’s most prestigious theatre awards “The Golden Mask — 2020“. The production was nominated for the award in two categories ‘Best opera production’ and ‘Best opera actress’ — Dinara Alieva.

Antonin Dvorak’s opera “Rusalka” based on Hans Christian Andersen The Little Mermaid and Czech fairy tales. The Bolshoi had never staged Dvořák’s operas before. Only in the beginning of XXI century the name of the acknowledged composer has appeared on the theatre’s posters.  The premiere of Timofey Kulyabin’s production took place on March 6, 2019.

Timofei Kulyabin, one of the most promising opera directors, stated:

“I wanted Rusalka to be always different, I wanted her character to change drastically in each act. As a result, we have three very different acts. And they differ not only in scenery, different realities, or acting – Rusalka herself is very different in each act”.

In 2016 Dinara Alieva made successful role debut as Rusalka in Beijing. Last year, Dinara has received critical acclaim for her performance in a premiere of Rusalka at the Bolshoi theater.

Pyotr Pospelov of Vedomosti wrote about her: “Of course we knew that the Bolshoi soprano Dinara Alieva was a good actress, but now we may recommend to our readers to attend Rusalka solely for its mute scenes Timofei Kulyabin has staged for the actress.”

Leyla Guchmazova of Rossiiskaya Gazeta noted:
“… The producers hit the target with casting… Plus unexpected Dinara Alieva, downright brave and bright, not at all ‘poor, timid Rusalka’ as her father laments. /…/ the Bolshoi management proved to be brave twice. And they have received a unique production that will by loved by conservators, radicals and all the rest alike.”
